Sun, sand, sea, and swimwear. In an exclusive editorial for DYO Magazine #294, French model Martin Gary posed for photographer Vinicius Vieira on the iconic beaches of Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. The stunning session captures his most relaxed, spontaneous, and sensual side. Born in Paris, the 34-year-old model found the vibrant Carioca landscape to be the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot that seamlessly blends male beauty, physique, and raw emotion.
Overcoming Camera Insecurity on a Crowded Beach
Despite his experience in front of the lens, Martin admits that the initial moments of the shoot were filled with anxiety.
"I am quite insecure in front of a camera, especially at the beginning of a shoot. I start thinking about how I look, what I'm doing with my body, and if anything looks strange," he confesses.
The challenge was heightened by the crowded beach and the minimalist beachwear. However, his instant connection with photographer Vinicius Vieira quickly shifted the energy. "At some point, it stopped feeling like a photoshoot and started feeling like we were simply having fun at the beach," Martin shares.
The Power of Connection and Body Freedom in Rio
For Martin Gary, building confidence in front of the lens isn't just about knowing how to pose. It stems directly from the relationship with the photographer and the freedom to forget the camera entirely.
The unique atmosphere of Ipanema played a massive role in this transformation. While the stares from onlookers were noticeable at first, they quickly became part of the experience.
"The relationship with the body in Rio feels much more free and natural. Everyone is on the beach, everyone is in swimwear. Life is just happening around you," he observes.
Embracing Vulnerability and True Confidence
Among his favorite shots from DYO Magazine #294, Martin highlights one of the most candid moments: lying on a towel, smiling, and looking away into the distance. "I'm not looking at the lens or consciously trying to look sexy. I just look happy and comfortable," he reveals.
Ultimately, this experience taught the French model that confidence is a gradual journey.
"Maybe confidence isn't about reaching a point where those insecure thoughts disappear. For me, it's about becoming comfortable enough to stop letting them control the experience."
In the end, more than the breathtaking landscapes of Ipanema or the magnetic energy of Rio, Martin took home the ultimate victory over his own insecurities. "What I really remember is how I felt at the end compared to how I felt at the beginning," he concludes.
That exact evolution is what shines through the imagery of DYO Magazine #294: a freer, more confident Martin Gary, completely at ease and ready to embrace every single moment.
